Charlize Theron is in hot water with swanky watch guy Raymond Weil. The Oscar winning actress is the celebrity face for the Swiss watches, but Charlize managed to mix up all her free bling and was caught wearing Dior at a recent charity event. Now she’s getting sued.
From Newsday:
Weil says in court papers the South African-born actress signed an endorsement deal saying that from October 2005 through December 2006 she would only wear Weil’s high-end watches.
That deal allowed Weil to use Theron’s photographs in its advertisements in exchange for “substantial funds,” court papers say.
At a news conference on March 14, 2006, at a film festival in Austin, Texas, court papers say, Theron “was actually photographed wearing a watch from the Christian Dior line.” A photo of her wearing the watch is included as an exhibit.
The court papers also say, “Although the agreement clearly prohibits (Theron) from appearing in any advertisement for any jewelry, even for charity, she appeared wearing a necklace in an advertisement benefiting an AIDS charity, violating the agreement, from February 2006 to December 2006.”
Here’s my question, how paranoid is this tick-tock guy that he had people scrutinizing all of Charlize’s photographs looking for watch violations? And seriously, he’s going to sue over an ad used to benefit an AIDS charity? Wow, that kind of capitalism inspires me to run right out and buy a Weil watch. Maybe I’ll kick some puppies and burn down an orphange on my way to the store.
